Who We Are

The Goldfellas are a group of Georgia Tech super fans that paint their entire bodies yellow spelling out witty phrases in black letters on their chest.  These painted fans attend every home football game and are located behind the South end zone goalpost. Occasionally, the Goldfellas also attend home basketball, volleyball, or other sporting events.  The group had its origins in the 1998 Georgia Tech football season, when a group of guys painted up for the homecoming game against the favored Virginia Cavaliers, the second of the fabled 41-38 games. The Jackets upset the Cavaliers and the tradition was started and passed on by residents in the now defunct Area II dormitories. Each member chooses a unique face design that is retired upon his graduation. The group is not considered an official club, as its members do not bow to any charters and are NOT affiliated with Swarm. The Goldfellas take pride in their complete lack of clothing besides a yellow wig and gym shorts. The group never sits during the course of a football game, not even during halftime. The largest gathering of the Goldfellas occurred in the 2007 football game against rival University of Georgia with over 80 Tech students painted up with the Goldfellas for the event. After several experiments at pre-game locations, the Goldfellas found a home in the W21 parking area (behind Howey Physics and the Mason building). The Goldfellas continue to solidify themselves as one of Tech’s most historic traditions.

Traditions

Ghetto Buzz

Ghetto Buzz started in 2001 painting up alone and then was asked by Goldfellas to join them. Since then he has lead the Goldfellas into the stadium for every event. Ghetto Buzz will forever be the fearless leader of the Goldfellas.

The Walk

The Walk is the ceremonial movement from the painting area to the south entrance of Bobby Dodd Stadium. The Walk consists of three separate events: The March, The Chant, and The Run

  • The March

The first and longest part of The Walk, The March begins around 30 minutes prior to kick off. The Goldfellas form a single file in their seating order (determined by the phrase of the week) and move towards the stadium. While on The March, the Goldfellas sing "Up With The White and Gold" and "Ramblin Wreck" as well as various chants. Crowd interaction is highly encouraged.

  • The Chant

Traditionally held at the intersection of Bobby Dodd Way and Techwood, the Chant concludes the The March. Ghetto Buzz leads the Goldfellas with the chants "What Time Is It?" and "What's The Good Word?" At the conclusion of The Chant, the Goldfellas break into The Run.

  • The Run

The Run begins immediately upon the conclusion of The Chant. The Goldfellas sprint from the intersection of Bobby Dodd Way and Techwood to the south entrance of Bobby Dodd Stadium. No Goldfella is permitted to stop during The Run. Once the Goldfellas reach the entrance, order is reestablished and The Walk is complete.

Retiring

In honor of those that have “Gotten Out” and significantly contributed to the Goldfellas mission, we shall have their unique faces forever immortalized. The exception to this rule is of course Ghetto Buzz, who will forever be there in some form or another causing mischief.
